About me
I am an NHS Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology with General Internal Medicine, specialising in lipidology and cardiovascular risk.
In my NHS role, I lead the Endocrine Service in East Cheshire, which I have developed into a comprehensive, patient-centred specialist service.
My clinical practice focuses on the assessment and management of complex lipid disorders, including inherited dyslipidaemia and patients experiencing statin-associated muscle symptoms. I have extensive experience working within a tertiary (tier 3) specialist lipid service, managing individuals with complex lipid profiles and elevated cardiovascular risk.
My academic work includes a PhD examining dyslipidaemia in metabolic disease, which informs a detailed and nuanced approach to lipid interpretation in clinical practice.
I lead a specialist lipid clinic at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust (Leighton Hospital), providing consultant-led, evidence-based assessment for patients seeking clarity around cholesterol, lipoprotein(a), triglycerides, and long-term cardiovascular risk.

I provide a specialist, personalised approach to lipid disorders and cardiovascular risk, tailored to patients with a wide range of concerns.
This includes individuals worried about inherited conditions such as familial hypercholesterolaemia, those recovering from a recent heart attack or stroke where more intensive lipid management is required, and patients who have experienced side effects from statins or difficulty tolerating treatment.
I take a lipoprotein-based approach to lipid disorders, moving beyond a simple focus on cholesterol and triglycerides. By analysing the specific lipoproteins that make up your lipid profile and identifying what is driving any abnormalities, I establish a precise diagnosis of the underlying lipid disorder.
From this, I develop a personalised, evidence-based management plan tailored to your individual cardiovascular risk, clinical context, and treatment preferences. This may include optimisation of existing therapies or consideration of alternative approaches where appropriate.
The aim is to provide clarity, precision, and confidence in managing your long-term cardiovascular risk..
My Approach

Areas of expertise and clinical focus
Who can I help
High Cholesterol
If you’ve been told your cholesterol is high, I can help you understand what it means and whether treatment is needed
High Triglycerides
Raised triglycerides may be linked to lifestyle factors, metabolic conditions, or inherited disorders, and in some cases can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease or pancreatitis
Lipoprotein(a) is an LDL-like particle that is largely genetically determined and can increase your long-term risk of heart disease and stroke.
ELEVATED LIPOPROTEIN (a)
Statin intolerance
Recent heart attack or stroke
Familial hypercholesterolaemia
If you have struggled with statins or experienced side effects, I can help review your symptoms and advise on whether alternative approaches may be more suitable.
If you have recently had a heart attack or stroke, I can help optimise your lipid levels, as this group often requires more intensive treatment to reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events.
FH is an inherited condition causing very high cholesterol and an increased risk of early heart disease. I offer specialist assessment, confirmation of diagnosis, and tailored treatment to reduce your risk effectively.
Research and academic work
My academic work focuses on the role of lipid metabolism in cardiovascular and metabolic disease.
I completed a PhD examining dyslipidaemia in metabolic syndrome and obesity, with a particular focus on its contribution to small-fibre neuropathy. .
I have published widely in lipidology and cardiovascular risk and have presented research at major national and international meetings.
